Durability confirmed post-wash by second size-L tester
2026-03-21
Francesco noted that after washing, the fabric "feels the same." Independently corroborates Ulli Voss's more detailed durability report (6–7 washes, no pilling or feel degradation). D1 now has 2 supporting data points, both from size L.
DURABILITY
"I don't have anything" — freedom-of-movement framing, new comfort description
2026-03-21
Francesco described wearing ātem in motion — walking, sitting, moving — as a sensation of wearing nothing at all. This is distinct from general comfort: it is specifically a movement and presence-absence framing. It came unprompted and after a comparison to a quality premium brand, which increases signal weight. No previous tester has used this specific framing.
COMFORT
"I want to replace all mine" — strongest reorder intent heard to date
2026-03-21
Francesco expressed full replacement intent — not just willingness to reorder but a desire to swap out his entire current underwear drawer. He compared ātem favorably to a premium Swiss brand ("Kaleda") he considers high quality. No price hesitation was expressed; his first statement on next steps was asking to buy more. This is the most decisive repurchase framing in the beta dataset so far.
RECOMMENDATIONPRICE SENSITIVITY
First recommendation intent confirmed; referral card not yet used
2026-03-17
Tom confirmed he would recommend and named specific people (Erdl, birthday early April, size L; and Jürgen). Referral card has not been passed on yet. First direct confirmation of H3.
RECOMMENDATION
First 3-pack price pushback; €45 single pair not questioned
2026-03-17
Tom accepted €45/pair without hesitation but flagged the 3-pack at €125: "wenn du es schaffst bei 3 unter 100 zu kommen, wäre es gut." First explicit price sensitivity signal — on the bundle, not the single pair.
PRICE SENSITIVITY
Sport and travel are compelling use cases, surfaced unprompted
2026-03-17
Tom called ātem a "perfekte Sporthose" for wearing under training/basketball shorts without a built-in liner, and independently identified long-haul travel (reduced sweating, comfort over time) as a strong use case. Neither was prompted. Both are currently absent from marketing.

01 [HARD DEADLINE
02 [Marita, this week] Updated Angebot + supplier queries. 2k/3k × two colors; MOQ per color; dye-bath MOQ; summer-pause dates; July Näherei slot; block-order window.
03 [SB, this week] Ship faded black pair to Marita for Hohenstein/WKS Farbechtheit lab test. [SL] Send photo of wavy elastic to Marita.
04 [LDC] Clarify EAN/barcode format with Quivo → pass to Marita for Näherei sticker application. Must be resolved before fabric order goes out (~2026-05-02).
05 [ALL] PMF metrics & September milestone
06 [LDC] Quivo intro call with new rep. 100-orders/3mo requirement is gating
DR-11 Packaging — Individual Sleeve per Pair (No 2er-Box) 2026-04-22 Accepted
Option A — individual sleeve per pair as the standard D2C/fulfillment format.** The 2er-Box is retired from the forward production plan. If a gifting format is later needed (Option C), it becomes a distinct SKU decision
DR-10 Production Timing — Ship Before Portugal Summer Pause 2026-04-22 Accepted
Option A — ship before summer pause.** Marita to request the July production slot this week along with the fabric order. Fabric order goes out no later than ~2026-05-02. Fallback to September only if the July slot cannot be secured — and only after Marita has pushed
DR-9 Fabric Block Order at €6.90/m 2026-04-22 Accepted (window terms pending Marita negotiation)
Option A — commit to the full block.** Terms:
DR-8 Two-Color Launch — Black + White 2026-04-22 Accepted (MOQ confirmation pending)
Option B — black + white, target split ~60/40.** Confirmed dependencies:
DR-7 Shopify Website Build — Fallback to LDC If SB Blocked 2026-04-15 Accepted
Option C — Soft deadline of 2026-04-22 (next weekly).** SB either starts the Shopify build himself by that date, or shares access credentials and LDC takes over. No further slip after that
DR-6 Sleeve Hygiene Standard for All Customer Shipments 2026-04-15 Accepted
Option A — All customer-facing shipments include the sleeve.** The sleeve is the hygiene envelope and part of the product. Founder-internal handoffs (e.g. a pair to SB's dad) are not customer shipments and do not set the standard
DR-5 Hertha Package Composition 2026-04-15 Accepted
Option A — 4M + 4L + 1XL (9 pairs) to Sami Allagui.** Let the Hertha contact distribute internally. Contact pings SB if more demand emerges; we restock-then-refill rather than over-commit upfront
DR-4 Task Management — Drop Asana, Adopt Notion 2026-04-01 Accepted
Option C: Drop Asana, adopt Notion
DR-3 Unit Cost Model Structure 2026-03-19 Accepted
Option B, with Option C as the target state.** R&D and one-time development costs are excluded from the forward per-unit cost model. They are sunk costs. Marita maintains a separate fully-loaded historical view for capital tracking
DR-2 Fulfillment Provider Decided
| Criterion | Weight | Notes |
DR-1 Website Platform 2026-03-11 Accepted
Lean toward Option A (Shopify + custom template).** SB indicated in the 2026-03-11 check-in that the direction is to use Shopify and build a custom template on top. This was not fully locked — SB said he would review it again. Decision should be confirmed once Simon Lorenz is back (week of 2026-03-18) and pricing is finalized

Competitive Landscape

Priority alert

CDLP's Merino Blend Boxer Brief ($70 USD) uses "Enhanced pouch for comfort and fit" in product copy. This is the first time CDLP has applied pouch-adjacent language to a product. It does not appear to be a structured 3D anatomical construction — more likely a modest front-panel shaping enhancement. But it is a directional signal. CDLP is acknowledging the comfort gap in flat-front construction. Monitor every new CDLP launch for escalation.

SAXX Smooth Luxe Micro Modal launched at $44 USD — their highest-ever single-pair price point. Micro Modal (89%/11% elastane), positioned as their premium lifestyle tier. Still below ātem's €45, still no European manufacturing, but the price ceiling is moving up.

SAXX Confirmed Zalando.de distribution Medium — already in DACH market
BN3TH Essentials tier confirmed at $26 Low — expanding downmarket, not up
Tommy John EU/Germany shipping confirmed Low — demand exists, no European identity
Ron Dorff SS26 Riviera collection, prices confirmed Low — holding position, no innovation
